House design questionnaire for clients
The questions to ask a homeowner before the first site meeting on a new home or a remodel. Free to print, copy and change. No sign-up.
Why send a questionnaire first
A questionnaire gets the basics on paper before you drive out to the property: size, stories, foundation, style, budget and timing. You walk into the first meeting already knowing what they want, and the meeting turns into a conversation about the house instead of an interview.
It also gets clients thinking. Plenty of people haven't decided between a crawl space and a basement until a form asks. Tell them it isn't a test: blanks and “not sure” are fine, and you'll fill in the rest together.
Send it right after the first call, while they're excited. Keep it short enough to finish on a phone in ten minutes. The one below is about twenty questions.

Budget and timing
What budget are you working with?
A range is fine, and so is not sure yet.
When would you like to be moved in?
How did you hear about us?
Meeting at your property
We'll walk the property together and go over your answers.
Which days in the next two weeks could work?
What time of day is best?

- Evening
Property address
Or directions if it doesn't have one yet.
For a remodel or addition
Use these in place of “The house” section.
What are you thinking about?
Pick as many as apply.
- Addition
- Kitchen
- Bathrooms
- Primary suite
- Garage
- Whole-house remodel
- Not sure yet
What isn't working in your house today?
About how many square feet are you adding?
Skip it if you don't know.
Making it yours
Swap in the styles you actually draw, and the must-haves your clients ask for most. If you work somewhere with storm shelters, safe rooms or snow loads, ask about them. Keep the questions in plain words: “What's under the main floor?” gets better answers than “Foundation type.”
End with the site meeting. Asking which days in the next two weeks work turns a form into an appointment.
Send it as a link instead
In Mullio, this questionnaire is ready on day one, and you can change every question. Clients fill it in from a private link on their phone, it saves as they go, and you see when they open it and when it comes back. The answers land on the project, ready for the site meeting.
